The Antique Road Show

Originally airing on the Public Broadcasting System, the Antique Road Show became an instant success with collectors and non-collectors alike.  The show invites people to bring in rare and sometimes valuable objects, often times family heirlooms, for appraisal by the show’s antique expert hosts.  The show’s cast travels all over the country, appearing at antique and trade shows throughout the year.  The Antiques Roadshow offers people the opportunity to find out just how much their pieces are worth, with sometimes shocking and sometimes disappointing results.

If you have an object or heirloom and are wondering about its value, the Antiques Roadshow could be just what you are looking for.  Check online at PBS.org to find out if the show will be traveling to your area in the near future.  However, if you cannot wait or cannot get to a show taping, you can always take your special piece to an appraiser.  There are many reputable antique appraisers in most towns, and one can give you a general estimate regarding your object’s worth.  It is good to get a second opinion in most cases, however, just to make sure the appraisal is accurate.

If you have something appraised on the Antique Road Show, or if you see something on the show that you also own, you always have the option of selling your piece for a profit, especially if it holds no sentimental value.  If you are in possession of rare and valuable object that you wish to sell, you can contact an antique dealer in your area to see how much money you can get for the piece.  It is important not to take the first offer, however.  Shop around and find the best deal before agreeing to sell to a dealer.
